Learn ‘Tsotsi Taal’, the language which is spoken by the locals. Visit a day care centre and a hostel to experience the effects of Apartheid or visit a local home and experience the vibe in Meadowlands.

Head off for the second part of the tour where you will ride a bicycle to explore the hidden corners of the township with our local guide. At the end of the tour you will be dropped off back at your accommodation in Johannesburg. .

Overnight: Guest House in Johannesburg, incl. breakfast

Day 3 Sabie (ca. 390 km)
Around 9am your car will be delivered at the accommodation. You will depart from Johannesburg and drive via Dullstroom to the Sabie area. En route you can visit the Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Centre just outside Dullstroom. This centre is committed to Eco-Friendly Environmental policies by educating the public in order to promote the awareness of raptor species and their plight as a growing endangered species. Dullstroom is a small appealing tourist destination and an ideal stop-over on the way to Sabie and the Kruger National Park.

Overnight: In a country lodge, incl. breakfast

Day 4 Kruger National Park (ca. 175 km)
Depart from Sabie and drive to the south of the Kruger National Park where you will spend one night in a rustic camp. The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. Kruger National Park is unrivalled in the diversity of its life forms and a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies.

Overnight: In a rustic camp inside the Kruger National Park, room only

Day 5 Kingdom of Swaziland (ca. 240 km)
You will proceed to the Kingdom of Swaziland after you had your breakfast. It is the home of King Mswati III, who is the head to the Royal Family of Swaziland. Enter Swaziland at the Jeppe’s Reef border post and drive towards Piggs Peak. Here you will stay for two nights in a cultural rural mountain camp run and owned by the local community. This camp is the first of its kind in Swaziland – a community owned eco-tourism friendly accommodation. Be prepared that this is a true local and basic once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Optionally then you can start the day, after having breakfast, with a visit to a sangoma which is a traditional healer. The sangoma is a very powerful person in the Swazi culture. They are thought to have healing powers and are able to predict the future. This experience will certainly open your eyes and possibly leave you wondering… You will have the rest of the day at leisure. Ask us to pre-book this excursion at your convenience.

Overnight: In community owned accommodation, room only

Day 7 & 8 Swaziland – Battlefields (ca. 275 km)
After exploring the Kingdom of Swaziland get ready for your next discovery of the Kingdom of the Zulus and its battlefields. Zulu wars, Shaka, Isandlwana, Rorke’s Drift, Colenso, Spioenkop, Ladysmith, Dundee, Churchill, Blood River, Cetshwayo, Boers … these are some of the terms which are associated with the internationally renowned KwaZulu-Natal Battlefields area of South Africa.

Walk in the footsteps of famous military strategists – Shaka, Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi and General Louis Botha – they were all part of the KwaZulu-Natal Battlefields. The legacy of our Zulu Kingdom’s critical, blood-soaked conflicts today lives peacefully – reconciled in this fascinating region’s myriad Battlefield sites, historic towns, national monuments and museums – and in HQ’s of the British regiments who make a ‘pilgrimage’ to these fields of bravery and supreme sacrifice. Here the Royal house is headed by King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, a descendant of King Shaka. Feel what it is like to live like a “King” and get the royal treatment in the district where the Zulu King lives.

Overnight: In Thatched Traditional en-suite rondavels incl. dinner and breakfast

Day 9 Battlefield to Clarens (ca. 365 km)
Today you will have a long drive ahead of you. In the early morning, after breakfast, you will leave the battlefields area and drive towards Vryheid and Clarens. Clarens is situated in the Eastern Free State highlands notable for its golden sandstone mountains.

Overnight: In a country guesthouse incl. breakfast

Day 10 & 11 Clarens – Lesotho (ca. 275 km)
Departing Kwazulu Natal you will head off to the Mountain Kingdom country (Basotholand). You will enter Lesotho near the beautiful Golden Gate National Park which lies in the rolling foothills of the Maluti Mountains.

The Lesotho Royal House is headed by King Letsie III (original name David Mohato Bereng Seeiso). Learn about the history of the mountain passes, geology of the mountains, and flora & fauna, while interacting with the Basotho people. In this area donkeys are still used to go to the store, bringing grain for grinding. Cattle and pigs and chickens roam freely among the blanket clad horsemen who come to shop at the Trading Post. Little, it seems, has changed since “Baseane” arrived in 1903 to establish his base shop for pioneering his trade into the blue Maloti’s. In 1862 King Moshoeshoe allowed Father Gerard and his missionaries to settle in a vast amphitheatre in an area known today as the Roma Valley.

You will spend two nights in this area so you will have sufficient time to learn more about Lesotho. Optionally we can book a pony trek starting at trading post. This will give you an amazing opportunity to see the surroundings in a calm and relaxed way. Optional activities include; horse back riding, hiking, cultural experiences and rock art excursions to do something different apart from the African culture.

Overnight: In a Guest House, incl. breakfast

Day 12 Lesotho – Cradock (ca. 350 km)
Lesotho will connect you to the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, a political hub and home to most Xhosa people (African culture) in South Africa. This is also home to the reputable Mr. Rholihlahla Mandela, worldwide known as former President Nelson Mandela.

Here the Royal House is divided by allegiance between the Gcaleka and Rharabe Royal houses. Zwelonke Sgcawu of the Gcaleka is located in Nqadu Village and the Sandile Sigcawu in Mgqeshe Village.

The Eastern Frontier of the early 1800’s (1770 – 1814) was the meeting of two cultures, the Boer and the Xhosa, both of whom looked upon cattle as their wealth. They both coveted the same grazing area. Earlier the Eastern trek of the Boers was through the arid areas of the Cape, and Graaff Reinett was founded as the Fourth Drostdy in 1786. It was in 1814 that Sir John Cradock decided to build a series of forts along the lower Fish River and all the way up to the Cradock to try to contain the Xhosa people to the East of the Fish River which had been proclaimed the boundary by the Government of the Cape.

Tonight you will overnight in Cradock. The town of Cradock, although intended as a fort, never saw conflict. The Xhosas in their Western migration were nearer the lower part of the Great Fish River rather than its upper reaches. Lord Charles Somerset succeeded Sir John Cradock and decided to invite the 1820 settlers to South Africa to act as a buffer between the Xhosa and the rest of the Cape Colony.

Overnight: In historic Karoo cottages, incl. breakfast

Day 13 Grahamstown (ca. 300 km)
Today you will continue your way into the malaria free Eastern Cape to a small town called Grahamstown. If you happen to be travelling during the first two weeks of July you will be lucky enough to experience the Arts Festival for which Grahamstown, the town where you will overnight at a local family, has become renowned for.

Upon arrival in Grahamstown you will be welcomed by your local host family who will introduce you into their local world and culture. This is absolute the purest and most personal way to learn more about local community life. In the area you can make optional day trips to coastal village Port Alfred, visit one of the many surrounding private game reserves, visit a pineapple farm or just enjoy some family time.

Overnight: In a local home stay incl. dinner and breakfast

Day 14 & 15 Grahamstown to Addo Elephant National Park (ca. 110 km)
From Grahamstown you will drive towards the Addo Elephant National Park. You will overnight on a 10 minute drive from the national park which allows you to visit the park for some game viewing. Your local hosts Keith and Nondumiso welcome you to stay in thatched cottages on their organic citrus farm. The Addo area is malaria free.

Breathtaking panoramic views, stunning tourist locations, unique African style organic meals and the organic farm are only a few of the delights that await you. The Greater Addo area is a wonderful place to spendtwo night – this is where 3 industries come together – conservation, tourism and farming, meaning that your stay can be filled with many diverse, rewarding and educational experiences.

Overnight: In thatched cottages, incl. breakfast

Day 15 Departure Port Elizabeth (ca. 130 km)
Today is your last day in South Africa. You can make your way to Port Elizabeth Airport where you will drop off your rental car three hours before boarding your flight back home or to your next destination.

Wonders of Namibia

Day 1 Windhoek – Waterberg

Arriving in the morning at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek, one of our representatives will meet you and assist you with your documents. Depending of the type of tour chosen, you can pick up your car at the airport or are transferred to the car rental office. You begin your self-drive journey into Namibia – a land full of wildlife, history and nature.

Drive to Okahandja for groceries or stop at one of the craft shops along the road. Continue your way to Waterberg Plateau. Waterberg nature Conservancy is beautiful for hikers, various hiking trails (nine on the plateau and a three day guided hiking trail) available. The Waterberg mountain has a different biotope and is lush in vegetation. Many birds and smaller mammals.

Overnight: Waterberg Nature Reserve, camp or lodge

Day 2 Waterberg – Etosha – Namutoni

Enjoy a early morning walk on the plateau, accompanied by many birds. Explore a route discovering fig trees. After a refreshing swim at the swimmingpool you can leave and drive to well renown Etosha. Register at Etosha / Lindequist gate, continue to Namutoni. Etosha means ‘place of dry water’, is centred around a huge, flat calcrete depression (or pan) of about 5,000 square kms in extent in far north Namibia. Etosha National Park is one of Africa’s major wildlife sanctuaries, being proclaimed a game reserve in 1907 and covering an area of more than 22 750sq kms. During the drier months of June to November the water points exert a magnetic pull on the big game herds, and forms the centrepiece for visitors looking to see the nearly 150 mammal species to found in the Park, including several rare and endangered species such as the black rhino, black-faced impala, tssesebe and gemsbok. Served by three well established rest camps (Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni) within the Park and a host of private lodges on its borders, Etosha offers visitors a wide choice of safari options. The floodlit waterhole at Okaukuejo and Fort Namutoni, previously the northernmost German outpost and now a rest camp, are just some of the charms of this place called Etosha. Namutoni has an old fort, restored and now restaurant and shop, from which on the top waterhole can be seen as well as from a separate small deck. Be back before sunset as the gates of the camp close!

Overnight: Namutoni camp or lodge

Day 3 Etosha – Namutoni – Halali – Okakuejo

Rise early with the sun and enjoy a morning of game drives. Make your way to Okakuejo along one of the paths leading through Etosha. You can stop over at Halali for a swim and lunch break. Relax in the hotter hours when animals are hiding from the sun. On Tuesday and Thursday evening the Okaukuejo Primary School Choir gives a performance ( summer time 19h30, winter time 18h30).

Overnight: Okakuejo camp or lodge

Day 4Petrified forest Twijfelfontein area

Have an early game drive in search for the big five. You can drive Spookiesbos or go to Leeubron for good look out points. Before you leave look at the registers to see where animals have been found. Leave the park via the Anderson Gate and drive via Outjo and Khorixas to the petrified Forest. The National heritage site has a picnic site, a little kiosk selling cool drinks and a craft shop. A guided non strenuous walk along the branches approx 30 min, seeing petrified wood logs of over 8m as well as endemic welwichia trees.

If time permits, visit one of the local petrified forests, set up by the local community along the road who happily show you their findings of petrified wood in the area they live.

Overnight: Aba-Huab campsite (Nacobta) or in Twijfelfontein lodge

Day 5 Twijfelfontein rock engravings, Burnt Mountain, Organ Pipes

En route to Twyfelfontein, it is possible to see desert elephant. Their huge pad marks often seen on the road indicate their presence. Further, along the route, discover 6000-year-old Khoi-San (Bushmen) paintings and engravings in the World Heritage Site Twyfelfontein. There are two well-marked walks; the shorter is about one hour and the longer about 90 minutes A small entry fee is charged and a local guide accompanies you to explain the engravings. Early morning or late afternoon is best, as the midday heat can be fierce. Kiosk selling cooldrinks, toilets and little craft shop on great set up visitors centre. Remember your water! Close by you also find the interesting dolerite columns that exposed by erosion have taken on an odd shape and are now referred to as the Organ Pipes. When the wind blows, the Pipes play music. The Burnt Mountain with its strange colouring is also just a couple of hundred meters away. Continue your way back via Khorixas or inland over upaved roads in direction of Brandberg.

Overnight: camping at Ugab Wilderness Camp (nacobta), White Lady Lodge Camp or White Lady lodge accommodation

Day 6 Spitzkoppe
