PUSH Project

About This Project

Persevere Until Something Happens (PUSH) is a  registered non profit organisation that was established in 2001.This project is based in Eldorado Park which is situated 25km SW from Johannesburg. Eldorado Park is surrounded by four informal settlement areas and has a population of 550,000 – 600,000 people.

PUSH is administered by a group of 62 community members who have actively been involved in doing services at various HIV/AIDS Treatment Centres where they helped monitor treatment to infected people. PUSH have many programs to suit the needs of the community.

  • Home-Based Care: PUSH supports and takes care of bedridden and terminally ill clients at their homes. PUSH cultivates care treatment, control of pain and other symptoms, supports physiologically, socially and spiritually.
  • Drop In Centre for Orphaned and Vulnerable Children: Through the Home Based Care, PUSH identified 500 children who have been orphaned and left vulnerable due to HIV/AIDS in Kliptown (Soweto), The communities in these areas are poverty stricken with a very high rate of unemployment, substance abuse, teenage pregnancies, HIV/AIDS infection and domestic violence. Every day 500 kids gather at PUSH premises to take part in various fun activities like netball, arts and crafts, dancing and much more to keep them from the negativity that surrounds them daily, here they are given fresh meals as many families cannot afford to provide these kids with food everyday. These children have often sessions with counsellors where they are given the opportunity to communicate any problems they might be experiencing; they are given emotional support to help them get through.
  • Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT): This program aims to educate people about the HIV/AIDS pandemic within their community. People infected/affected by HIV/AIDS can visit the Centre to have themselves tested for HIV/AIDS or seek counselling from well trained staff that is qualified to assist.
  • EPWP: The purpose of EPWP is to provide job opportunities and leadership opportunities, through skills development training of the unemployed, youth, women, disabled and retrenched. The trainings include Basic HIV/AIDS and Counselling Skills Training.
